San Jose founded in 1777, was California's first civilian settlement. For over ten years, the FBI crime statistics have shown that San José is the safest large city in the U.S. with a population of just under 924,950. San Jose is the third largest city in California, following Los Angeles and San Diego. It is the 11th largest city in the U.S. with 177.4 square miles of incorporated area. Housing costs: average rent is $1286 and median sales price for a single family home is $545,000.

The downtown area has an active vibrant business district as well as many restaurants and night clubs. Community events abound including Music in the Park, Farmer's Market, Christmas in the Park and many more. Council meetings and special programming. Meetings are replayed twice weekly.

3-1-1 - The Police Non-emergency Telephone Number
The non-emergency telephone number for the San José Police Department is 3-1-1.
This is the number to call to report non-emergency police situations, such as
noise disturbances, parking complaints, lost and found property and crimes NOT
in progress. The San José Police Department encourages residents to use their
own judgement when determining the nature of their situation. When in doubt,
however, the Police Department recommends that residents call 9-1-1.
9-1-1 – The Number to Call for All Emergencies
In the event of a police, fire, or medical emergency, call 9-1-1. Trained
personnel are available to help you, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
